Alex speaks five languages, is a former competitive swimmer and served as a tank platoon commander during his military service, has a degree in computer science and loves Harley Davidson motorcycles – he’s even built one from scratch. But with all of his diverse interests, for now Alex’s heart lies with fashion. The 6ft 2in model’s future was sealed in 1994 when he met photographer Bruce Weber and Wilhelmina agent Sean Patterson, and was soon chosen to star in the Hugo Boss campaigns that brought him fame. He’s also worked for Karl Lagerfeld, Guess? (where he’s starred alongside supermodels Laetitia Casta and Valeria Mazza), and Versace, who featured him with a topless Helena Christensen. “Reading philosophy books keeps me sane,” says Alex, “but modelling is the best school of life there is.”
